2010 was a great year for Page 1's Green Solutions program. We, as a company, continue to strive to be more eco-friendly and conscious of our impact on the environment and our community. We had several notable achievements for the Green Solutions program this year that I would like to share those with our readers.

First, Page 1 is proud that we received the Silver Environmental Achievement Award from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in 2010. We are dedicated to achieving gold status by 2013, and the development of the three Green Solutions committees will help us get there. We were also nominated as an EPA Green Power Partner in the spring, as we have transitioned to 100% wind energy and 100% green hosting and carbon offsetting.

Second, to expand on the above mention of new in-house committees, it came to our attention that the Green Solutions initiative has grown so much that it is now more than one or two people can efficiently manage. In order to keep the program moving forward efficiently, we created three in-house committees, each made up of volunteers from every department.

Since we have broken the task of going green into more manageable chunks, we now have people who are specializing in different areas of the program. One committee will be focused on our internal policies, from recycling and composting to carpooling and other energy-reduction solutions for the company itself. Another committee will be working closely with our clients in order educate them on the things they can do to turn their practice into a green practice. Our third committee will be working with our community to help the businesses in our complex start a green initiative for their own businesses.

Third, our property management company installed solar panels over the summer and they are in the process of getting everything up and running so that we can start harnessing the power of the Colorado sun. As a state who averages over 300 days of sunshine, it just makes sense to use that energy source to help our company run more efficiently.

Lastly, Page 1 has an ongoing partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation where we plant trees and rescue rain forest for each new SEO and website design client we bring on. In 2010, we planted 710 trees and saved 71,000 sq. ft. of rain forest!

Thank you to all of our employees who have worked hard at helping the company go green, as well as those who have helped their friends, family and communities become more aware of the importance of the green initiative. Just taking a few small steps can make a world of difference.
